Batlivala & Khanabhoy : Restaurant Review

For me and my group of foodies, it had been sometime since we’ve had food experience that was new and “totally awesome”. After some deliberation, we decided to turn up here.

The decor and interiors were not great. Even the chairs weren’t comfortable enough. But we did not come here for a date or for impressing anyone. So far the experience managed to do was lower our expectations.

The menu was pretty simple and we kinda prefer such menus. We like places that strain themselves to deliver the best with a smaller menu, rather than being average with a wider spread.

The first item Lollypop na Farcha that came to our table was enough to reset all those expectations. All the starters ordered managed to wow us and we continued to dive into the menu further.

The waiter recommended Chicken Maivala, but for some reason he warned that the dish is not very suitable for sharing. Unless something is single (small) piece of meat, every item is shareable.

Another item that was just too delicious and a must-do at this place is the Egg-cupcake like made Sali Per Eedu.

The other items we ordered were no less, and we enjoyed each and every one of them. Mamaji’s Prawn Kebabs, Patra ni Machchi and the combo — Ghost na Kebab with Pulav and Dal.

The one small negative we had was that desserts were not as great as the rest of the dinner. Given that by the time, we come to desserts, they’ve set the standards too high, it would have been tough even for them.

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve gone to this place. I’ve recommended to a bunch of people and they have all loved this place. I tried going again with my family but the place was booked fully on the weekends.

Just one suggestion. Once you’ve finished your meal, and you are ready to move out, make sure you check out their macroons. This is the first time I’ve tasted something that is better than the (real) Thoothukudi ones. They are not for sale, at least as of now, but you do get to sample it along with other similar items.
