we have a trillion lightbulbs
a hundred different sizes
fragile little heads housing
blazing illuminations

trillions of lightbulbs all
connected to our switches
spread out upon our grids

we have so many lightbulbs
it’s hard to see the stars
(except the really bright ones)

endless lightbulbs living
countless lightbulbs dead
(crunching in our landfills
cracking in our garbage bins)

we have a trillion lightbulbs
to write our poems at night
to reveal all our dangers
to illuminate our sinning

we have a trillion lightbulbs
and yet the dark is winning
