October flight lessons

it was sunnier
and warmer
than normal
Lady Bugs and
Boxelder Bugs
covered everything
that faced the sun

“They’re everywhere!”
in my hair
in my ear
in my shirt pocket
one was even tryna’
cop-a-feel
of B’s right breast
we moved our chairs
to get away

they followed
one was flying
towards my face
I leaned to the left
she shifted her path
I heard her tiny scream:
“How do I fly this thing!”
a mere moment before
crashing into my cheek.
