Hi Nicholas. Nice article and excellent questions. It is possible to redirect big tech efforts to better meet the needs of the wider economy. Previous reporting from the Economist has featured a regulatory solution, a broadening in application of anti-trust law. The best solution in my view is a market-based approach. Aligning the interests of big tech and individuals and crafting the financial incentives that will compel big tech to share with their customers the personal data they are collecting, so far the source and cause of their wealth concentration.
