Unofficial Medium Unclap Guide

You are a Medium member. You see a piece of relatable life advice on your feed and, by accident, click “clap”. This is the moment when you realised that you have, yet again, given a portion of your, erm, contributions, to a useless listicle.
You need to unclap. Or undo claps. Or remove claps. (What are they calling it these days???)
Fun Facts on Unclapping
- The word “unclap” was used in the early 17th century, meaning “to unfasten”, “to unclasp” (This is Oxford Dictionary so it is probably right).
- If you google the word “unclap”, my Medium article on clapping appears on the first page. Thinking about this gives me goosebumps.
Unofficial Guide to Unclapping
Desktop:
- Mouse over the clap button. A cross will appear next to it. Click the cross to cancel your claps.
- When there’s a down arrow on the bottom left of an article, click the arrow and you will find an option called “Undo applause for this post” (how many other ways are they going to call it?!)
Android app (how do you call non-iOS apps?)
- Look for three dots at the bottom left of an article. From there you can see an option “Undo Claps”

iOS, the most mysterious one
- Go to the bottom right of a post. Click the “share” button (square and arrow). Undo claps is one of the options.

Feel free to experiment undo-ing claps on my post. But do give 50 claps after you finish. I have an unexplainable affection towards big numbers.
