Thanks for this article. I agree, but racism is not only this. It is also a structural and systemic issue. Society is rigged in favour of white folks (and men, heterosexuals, upper class, etc.). Through covert and explicit hegemonic influences through a multitude of policies, media, and cultural influences, children are brought up in a world governed by unfair structures that benefit certain types of people with particular advantages. When a person grows up with anger and wounds (i.e. all of us) they look for a scapegoat on whom to project their anger and frustration, and our white supremacist system has biased white people to all be racists, to blame POC for their issues. So, I agree that racism is something that occurs on a personal individual level because of their “personal stories” of wounding, but I think we need to look at both micro and macro. Oppressive systemic and structural racism encompasses personal individual racism and needs to be dismantled so that we are no longer dealing with such fertile breeding grounds for racism at the individual level.
