The 5 Best #EqualPayDay Gifs of 2017

Yesterday (April 4, 2017) was Equal Pay Day, the annual acknowledgement of the gap between men’s and women’s wages that was started in 1996. Because women earn less, on average, than men, they must work longer for the same amount of pay. We saw lots of great stories, infographics and tweets — below are our five favorite animated gifs of the day.

1. A Woman’s Work is Never Done

Looking for more data? Vocativ’s got loads of intel and fancy infographics in their story “On Equal Pay Day, Activists Push For Radical Salary Transparency”.

2. Go Beyond Limitations

For Equal Pay Day; Luna Bar has partnered with actress and equal pay advocate Gina Rodriguez (star of “Jane the Virgin”). This outtake gif sums up how everyone who has found out they’re paid less for the same job feels, watch the whole video here.

3. Be the Change

Last summer, we were honored to be involved in the first annual United State of Women event in Washington DC. Their website includes loads of research and information, including a great page with facts about the Wage Gap.

4. Equal Pay for Equal Work: For All

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has been promoting equity and education for women and girls since 1881. They’ve also got a list of weekly actions for organizing to close the gender pay gap on their blog. Their calendar gif reminds us that equality is not equal and women of color have to wait even longer to reach parity.

5. Bonus Video: 20% Less is Crazy

Ok, this is a video, but it’s hilarious. LeanIn.org partnered with Funny Or Die and Hulu to present “#20PercentCounts: See what 20% less looks like” — a tongue-in-cheek view of why getting 20% less isn’t awesome. Learn more at leanin.org/equalpay.
