Earlier this week, over 300 female leaders from across Silicon Valley gathered at Facebook’s headquarters to discuss product management at the inaugural Women In Product conference. The one-day event was created to help connect product managers throughout the tech industry.

Our own COO & VP of Product Lesley Grossblatt spoke on the Learning to Lean In Panel with Sabrina Ellis, Fidji Simo, Irana Wasti and Rose Yao. The event featured a number of theBoardlist’s community, including organizers Deborah Liu and Fidji Simo, and speakers Julia Hartz, CEO of Eventbrite, and Frederique Dame of Uber.

A few highlights from the day’s speakers:

  • “We talk a lot about mentorship but it’s such a heavy concept; create a tribe of advisors instead.” — Julia Hartz, CEO of Eventbrite
  • “Aggressive is not good or bad — it all depends on the situation. When you’re being called aggressive, ask for more data: how did it impact the situation?” — Lesley Grossblatt, COO & VP of Product at theBoardlist
  • “To me the definition of a leader is someone who transforms.” — Joanna Lambert, Head of Consumer Products at Paypal
  • “The fastest way to influence someone is to change their mood.” — Katia Verresen, CEO of KVA Leadership
  • “A sponsor opens doors to other opportunities.” — Deborah Liu, VP of Platform & Marketplace at Facebook
  • “What if you just decided you were going to be ok no matter what?” — Frederique Dame, startup advisor and investor
  • “Figure out something that is ambitious and you’d like to do, and make a commitment to go do it.” — Sheryl Sandberg, COO at Facebook

The Women in Product organization is planning to host additional events both in the SF Bay Area and afar in the future. Here at theBoardlist, we’re excited to see more women in tech focused communities being created to support one another.
