The backbone elements

Please make a sentence of at least 3 words and do not include any of the words that this one has in it.

Hard, isn’t it? Pronouns (e.g. it, I/you/she/he, what/who/how, that/which), determiners (e.g. a, the, some, every), prepositions (e.g. with, without, in, to), and conjunctions (e.g. and, or, but, because), these are what I call the “backbone” elements that are essential to make almost every sentence. If you check “the most frequent 100 words in English” you’d know what I mean.

Knowing these elements allow you to chop a sentence into more digestible chunks even though you do not necessarily know the meaning of the other words. And because they are the most frequent words, they are definitely worth the effort to learn.

In Spanish personal pronouns are sometimes dropped because they have a super smart idea using conjugation alone to indicate the subject of an action. We will look into this in the coming days.

See you soon! / ¡Hasta la próxima!
