This should never be the case: either your relationship with your customer is flawed or the hiring manager hired developers who aren’t passionate about the field (or inexperienced management). Nearly every job has interesting problems to solve better than anyone else has solved before. More likely, you’re stuck in local minima — a problem I had to solve myself in order to handle extremely large and diverse datasets.
