NewDEAL Mayors Ready to Deliver Results
On the eve of the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Winter Meeting, NewDEAL mayors gathered together in Washington, D.C., to highlight priorities for the coming years. Days before President-elect Trump’s inauguration, the mayors emphasized their leading role in delivering positive, pragmatic results for their constituents.
“We can do big things together,” Mayor Lacey Beaty of Beaverton, Oregon, told her colleagues and other NewDEAL supporters.
“You can be progressive and you can be pro-growth,” Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mayor Tim Keller added. “They come together in areas around climate change and infrastructure where we can create good American jobs and save the climate at the same time.”
Mayors returned over and over again to themes of leadership on issues that really matter to residents in the coming years. And many highlighted that many initiatives started under the Biden-Harris administration, including projects funded by the American Rescue Plan, Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and others, will continue to bear fruit in communities around the country, cementing the positive impact and legacy of that administration.
“Mayors are going to be so critical in the coming years,” said NewDEAL CEO Debbie Cox Bultan. “You will not only deliver for the American people, but you will show the way forward for the Democratic Party by focusing on both good governance and positive results.”
When discussing specific issues, mayors highlighted pragmatic programs that benefit residents of their cities. Topics included reducing homelessness, creating jobs in new areas such as microprocessors, tackling climate change with investments in clean energy, and addressing affordability issues related to housing, health care, and other areas.
