The Tough Decision

There gets to a point in life that we must make the tough decision. Very few people will go through their lives without having to make at least one potentially life-altering choice. It’s a tough choice because it usually consists of something meaningful that you must sacrifice to make room for something new. Whether its cutting ties with an old friend that is hurting you or taking a leap of faith by quitting your job to try a new one. But the point of this “tough decision” is not to only harm or to only save, it is to transform; to start the ball rolling to create something different. The path of life that each one of us follow is infinitely different from one another. But all of them consist of trials and tribulations that all must face. We all will one day realize that a choice must be made to potentially change the course of our journey. A good friend once told me that the question of this choice is not “will it be scary?” because sometimes the taller the cliff, the more exhilarating the jump can be to the water below. The question should really be “If I look back in two, five, or even ten years, what are the odds that I will regret this decision?”. The tough decisions that we make are all leaps of faith; a leap into the unknown, not knowing what is truly at the bottom. It could be a lovely spring or a chasm of sharp rocks and if it is a bed of sharp rocks, the longer you fall, the more you will hurt in the end.

However the opposite is true if the risk you are willing to take is rewarding. The more risk that is involved, the more rewarding the result will be. Sometimes we are faced with the dilemma because life has guided us on a path that leads to nothing; a proverbial dead end in which seems inescapable. Or we must make a choice to gamble on a potential better option. Regardless of how we end up at this point in life, the next decision we make is essential. This is the purpose of this post. To show that our experiences, our heartaches, our victories, and every decision no matter how big or small, play a role in constructing each and every one of our lives. For all of our lives are different, and without all of these pieces, they would mean nothing. No matter how daunting the end result may be, we all must rise up to this challenge and face it head on. Every tough decision, whether it ends up hurting us or helping is created for a reason. It is a small and incredibly important step on our journey. So next time you are faced with that tough decision, remember to not back down and never forget that without these essential, treacherous steps, the reason you were put on this earth would be null and void. Make them wisely and never be afraid of what the result may be because you are the creator of your own destiny. Your actions and choices in life will shape who you are as a person and will determine whether or not you succeeded and actualized your purpose in life.
