Jason, I’m as big a fan of generalisms as anyone, but I think you may have taken this idea a bit too far (see my 95/95/95 rule)
Thing is, there are times when you DO need to scale, and while your point about “it will work eventually” is too often how things play out, it doesn’t have to be.
Basecamp is a model of success in your model AND modal, but sometimes you need to get big to protect yourself; merely being first mover (if you're lucky) won’t protect you forever in most businesses. I see this with my brick-and-mortar clients all the time.
Here’s where that point about generalisms comes in: I fear you’ve started looking at other businesses as though they are like yours. And most are like each other, but few are lies yours.
You, sir, are becoming the hammer that thinks everything you encounter can be handled as if it’s a nail.
