First lets look at the factors that lead to crashes. According to the world’s leading aerospace technology manufacturer Boeing, 80% of all plane crashes can be attributed to human error. The other 20% are mainly due to faulty equipment and unsafe weather conditions.

Essentially what the data presented above is saying is that 80% of all plane accidents could have been avoided.

Just think about the implications of that statistic. Is it not mind blowing to think that the very personnel who are supposed to keep you safe also pose as the biggest threat to your life?

Earlier this year the lives of one hundred and fifty people were lost because of the suicidal co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525.

According to data provided by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention the rate of suicide in the United States is around 12.6 deaths per 100,000 people. This leads to around 40,000 deaths annually making suicide the 10th leading cause of death for Americans.

There are around 100,000 commercial airline pilots in the United States. Statistically speaking this would mean that at any given time there are 12.6 pilots who could be suicidal…
