I know that when I feel bad, I search for his support in the form of renewed closeness and intimacy. In my mind, the way I express my love, is the real, true way to love. Anything that deviates from that, does not feel like enough.

I felt this too — it was what broke us. That belief that anything different from how I expressed love was not enough. It took a lot, like having a baby and getting a job I want to keep, to remember that we choose to love. It is not mandatory to be loved back, and certainly not good form to demand what we give to be reflected back upon us. When we stop believing that we are owed the love we seek, we eventually see how abundant that thing we said was not enough really is.
