Don’t be Fooled: Why Bernie Sanders Supporters Should Stay Clear of Gary Johnson

Ronald, there is a number of issues with the article, particularly with the following paragraph:

“If we boil down the libertarian ideology to its fundamentals, they essentially believe that we should have as minimal government as possible. Government protections of civil rights? Zip. Government regulations of large, unsustainable financial institutions that have already reeked havoc on our economy? Nope. Government policies that preserve the environment and protect our natural resources? Zilch.”

While you are right about the essentials of libertarian thought, you fail to relate it to Gov. Gary Johnson’s positions. Has or does he advocate for a smaller government? Absolutely. Does he oppose protecting civil rights? Absolutely not. Does he oppose regulating “large, unsustainable” financial institutions? Not quite; while he does not advocate further and more strict regulatory policies, he has said and remains consistent with that the government (a) had no business bailing out the said financial institutions and (b) should not indulge itself in favoritism, based on lobbying efforts. Does he oppose combating climate change and protecting the environment? In fact, he supports both.

Any critique of a candidate requires delicate scrutiny of their record. That is what is missing from the article.
