The political landscape in Thailand witnessed a significant turn of events as the Pheu Thai Party, the third incarnation of a Thai political party, emerged in a prime position to form a new government. The opportunity arose after the Thai parliament dealt a blow to the ambitions of the Move Forward Party (MFP), a social democratic and progressive political party.

The focal point of the recent political drama was the bid by the Move Forward Party to renominate their party leader, Pita Limjaroenrat, for a prime ministerial vote. However, after a marathon seven-hour debate, the lawmakers denied Pita Limjaroenrat the chance to stand for a second parliamentary vote for the coveted position.

It was not the first time Pita Limjaroenrat had faced rejection in his quest for the premiership. In a previous attempt, the Move Forward Party won the most votes in a May election, but Pita Limjaroenrat lost the initial parliamentary vote to become the prime minister just a week before the recent setback.
