The Odds For Life Without a God Do Not Matter
1 quintillion to the 1 billionth power means nothing.
I’m not a super educated person. In fact, I have no idea if 1 quintillion to the 1 billionth power actually does mean anything at all. But I do like to think a lot. Growing up in religion has made it a huge part of my life, even as an atheist, it’s simply impossible to get away from it for me. I’ve watched many debates, listened to countless books, and have studied the Bible and other religious texts.
I find an argument cropping up with religious people all the time and no matter how someone phrases it I can’t help but wonder to myself… how is this not self-defeating.
The video above basically says that the odds of life happening on it’s own are very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very small.
(Now the word “very” looks very weird to me)
The problem is, the moment you say there is a chance, you’ve admitted that… well… there’s a chance, no matter how small that chance might seem. And if there is a chance that the universe and the world was created without a god (or gods) then we have admission that the world, in fact, does not need a god to create it.
But let’s move beyond my poorly thought out argument and take a look at how the universe is. If I were to take 6,000 dice and roll them all I have a 100% chance of getting a result from all 6,000 dice, but what are the odds I rolled that exact combination? Very low, yet, I have still rolled it.
The chance of the universe existing is 1.
