10 Days of Pendant — Day 2 — Red Sands and H&H

Or, why you should never, EVER, leave the ditzy to their own devices.

It’s day two of the 10 Days or Pendant, everyone! Let’s dive in, shall we?

(Mild Spoilers Follow)

Red Sands Investigations was at one point akin to being the red headed stepchild of Pendant. When it debut, it challenged an unbroken streak of ongoing series to become Pendant’s first original feature length mini-series. And it did so quite successfully, if you ask me.

Fiona Thraille did a wonderful job on the writing and mixing front. I especially love the music choices she went with; that violin is equal parts soothing and creepy.

It’s been a couple years since I’ve listened to it in full, but I recall loving Marleigh Norton’s character, Carla. She’s sharp, calculating, and a pretty stellar protagonist. Nick Flint was a perfect foil for her efforts. And Victor Treskillin was a pretty dangerous bad guy too.

And Tiffany?

Oh Tiffany…

She was a bit ditzy as I recall it. Always making British references Carla didn't understand, much to my joy. And if I recall correctly, she wasn't always the best backup to have on hand either.

And speaking of ditzy characters, here’s to the ditziest Pendant characters of all: Henderson & Havner.

Man oh man, these two. They’re ding dongs who delight in their own idiocy. Which would should be totally annoying, but Jeffrey and Susan Bridges weaves other comedic elements into the show that make it work.

The title characters themselves are so self-obsessed, that their dialogue steps all over one another, often to humorous effect.

Groan inducing jokes are pulled off to delightful effect.

And then there’s the cameo appearances… EASILY my favorite part of the show! I mean, just look at some of the lines the cameo characters get:

“These are model airplane controls!”

“Actually, I've got all the time in the world. Because Rolexes.”

Out of context, you might be scratching your heads at those quotes. But that’s the fun thing about H&H: context is entirely subjective.

Stay tuned for day 3 of the 10 Days of Pendant!
