Improve the experience for doctors. We need talented people to enter medicine. It’s a long road to becoming a physician, and there need to be strong incentives for our best and brightest to pursue medicine. We should not be in a situation where talented people are saddled with large debt burdens as a percentage of income for years, as is the case now. Changing the experience will also reduce physician burnout and frustration, which will ultimately improve patient care. …

I surround myself with people who help me become my best version. I am a proponent of positive psychology and do my best to avoid “energy vampires.” The more I am around negative people, the more my positive energy dissipates. Even if the negative people are family members, there are ways to protect our own energy and limit our time around such people. Sometimes, excusing one’s self from a room to practice deep breathing can reset and create an effective psychic boundary. It can, at least, disrupt a negative conversation.

Stop trying so hard. This goes against the thousands of memes that tell us we must grind, strive, sweat, bleed, etc… for everything! Don’t get me wrong, reading the story of the human who went from weighing 400lbs to being a super healthy yoga instructor in the course of 60 days by completely altering all aspects of their life is very inspiring. Create the habit of self integrity. Create a promise that you will keep to yourself everyday. ONE promise and a smaller realistic promise. Example- Drinking 100oz of water daily. Then keep that promises every day NO MATTER WHAT. Just like you would keep any promise to your kids or work. As soon as this becomes a habit you can stack another promise on top of it. This is called promise stacking.

Exercise or move your body on a consistent basis. This could mean hour-long strength workouts if that feels good to you, or it could simply mean taking walks with your dog. Experiment, try new things, and learn how to move your body in a way that feels good to you. Don’t compare yourself to what others are doing. Try new ways of exercising or moving until you find what you enjoy, and then do it consistently!

Love is everything. The only thing kids really need is to feel loved and supported. That comes through spending time with people who love them. A teacher or other family members or a nanny is great, but there’s nothing better than the love and attention of parents.

THINK POSITIVE THOUGHTS! MIND OVER MATTER — Our minds are very powerful, and our thoughts largely control how we feel. When we become conscious of our thought patterns and realize when we are having negative thoughts, we can choose to change what we are thinking. The vast majority of the scenarios we worry about never happen. Why expend all that energy towards that place of fear? Instead, choose to focus on positive outcomes or things that you are grateful for. …

…Treating ourselves with love, compassion, and empathy, and coming to the understanding that we all have what it takes to heal. This does not mean we exclude others in our healing process, it simply means it begins with us and our choices, needs, and decisions that we make for our own health.

To me, mindfulness implies my mind is calm, focused, peaceful, whole, healthy, safe, and sane. It is an integrated part of the adventure of my life and my experience. When I combine my intellect with my essential nature, great things happen and I am delighted. I am also able to move through challenges more effortlessly and be resilient again and again.

…I would say it’s the act of being aware of what’s occurring for us internally and what’s occurring outside of us. So, an awareness of what’s going on for ourselves internally: mentally and emotionally, and also an awareness of what’s going on in our environment.
