Participation is not a nuisance.
It’s been a couple of weeks since I upgraded to iOS 10, and I still miss swiping to unlock. The logical part of my brain figures it probably doesn’t take any longer to open my phone by clicking the home button a couple of times, but it feels like it takes longer.
Why is that? Holding my thumb on the button is a quicker action to complete—did swiping across my screen give my phone time to get ready to open? Or is it that I felt like I was participating before, where now I feel like I am merely operating? Makes me wonder about the balance between the nuisances of unnecessary work, and the intrinsic rewards of work.
