I think there’s certainly room for debate on this issue. Over my 20 years working for and leading legacy orgs and startups alike, I’ve noticed that some companies and some leaders do an amazing job of hiring and developing talent. Others: not so much. There is variation across industries and sectors. Sadly, the frustrations that Faris describes are very real and dependent on countless factors, such as age of company, viability of business, experience of leadership, ability of that leadership to respect their confederates, internal incentives, extrinsic motivating factors, etc.
Not all companies. Some companies. Not all leaders. Some leaders.
Lots of bad raisins in the pudding, so to speak :)
