Here we are in 2021, still sheltering in place — but now, we have a new president, a vaccine in the world, and most of us are okay on toilet paper. Things are looking up, but it’ll likely be a while until most of us get our shot at the shot. So, we still have a lot of time to kill.

The Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) Parents for Transparency and Safe Reopening, a group of concerned parents in Oakland, are pushing the school district to come up with a plan to reopen once Covid-19 case numbers (hopefully) come down again in the spring.

The end of this hellacious — maddening, depressing, completely draining — year is almost here. Though it doesn’t mean the difficulties of the past twelve months will miraculously evaporate into thin air, 2021 does give us a fresh start and a chance to course-correct. And (fingers crossed) a successful vaccine rollout will allow us to deliver a Mariah Carey-inspired “[we] don’t know her” to Covid-19.
