The Beloved Alma Mater Made Accessible to Millennial Students
Honestly, what can they do right?
we salute

with a song
at your feet,
soft as cotton,

of your coming
your smile (oh, that smile)
so bright —
— blinding darkness
through tribulation,
still you are

more beautiful
than a summertime
iris
of my eye

This piece was inspired by modern poet, Rupi Kaur (whose title as “poet” is highly contested). It is included in our recently published collection of Meredith-based poems, cucumbers in water based on Kaur’s milk and honey. Kaur is widely criticized for the seemingly overly simplistic, arbitrary, and infantile approach she takes in her work.
