I love Art but.. also AI

I have to admit one thing.

Art has a very special place in my heart! I mean I have been doing this for ages! Whether you say painting, making wall art or sculpture, or even making unique designs with Procreate, I have done them all!

Also, I have even gone on for Blender. I know it’s tough, but I really love it!

But there is a limit to everything.

Being an art teacher and now even selling my own designs on Etsy, I cannot be all over the place, right?

When I first saw a YouTuber’s story of using AI and making $3k per month extra. I thought he must be kidding me. Because who can do this? I mean just copying and pasting doesn’t work in the online world!

This was not just one success story out there but many who were using AI for their side hustle businesses. I don’t know if anyone has made $10k per month but $3k per month?

I have to admit that I was reluctant at first!

But then when I tried myself (there are other tricks involved too!) I realized that its ACTUALLY possible to sell AI-generated art online.

Note that — I don’t sell AI art in my main stores but I created new ones on other platforms to test it out! I would advise you to do the same! Have to keep my real art and AI-generated art separately. My handmade are expensive :)

If you are curious about where I have been selling this then let me give you a list. I started with Etsy first and then went on to other platforms. Please do not jump to all platforms at once!

Finding a Niche

Photo by Jonny Caspari on Unsplash

I am not a fan of selling random stuff! It’s okay for side hustle but if you wanna make BIG like four-figure sales per month then niche down a bit.

So to find niches for my stores, I took the help of AI. You can use any tools you like. I’ll go with ChatGPT here.

These are just few examples. if you want you can go further with this one. Like more sub-niches in Fantasy art.

So pick only those which you like.

Pick one niche then explore their sub-niches. I always choose a mixture of many sub-niches at the same time!

Where I sell my AI art

So these are the platforms where I have been selling my artwork. I have listed all of my platforms. But remember that this took me 2 years to accomplish. I won’t advise you to go through all at once.

Start with two and then go on slowly with the others!

Amazon KDP

These are my favorite ones of all!

Why Amazon KDP for selling art?

  1. Large audience
  2. Global
  3. Anyone can make money (no geo boundaries!)
  4. No experience needed
  5. Anyone can make an account there!

How to find a perfect niche for you

See how is the competition in these niches.

I always aim for the one which has under 5,000 results.

Some of the niches you can try are —

  1. recipes books
  2. self-improvement books
  3. self-care books
  4. beauty care
  5. fitness planner

and so on.

Now you have to take note of one thing. There are some niches that goes along with each other very well.

You can also go for a planner shop. Then add different types of planners like —

  1. meal
  2. fitness
  3. hair care
  4. shop list
  5. personal business
  6. self care

and so on. Use AI-generated images as covers, icons inside the books, and so on.

Etsy

I love Etsy. I have been on Etsy for a while and really love how easy to use and how I am able to reach a global audience without much effort.

Etsy has about millions of traffic per month. Thats huge and most of them come for creativity, digital products only.

My type of audience!

How to find the best niches on Etsy

Once you have a niche in your mind then go and type on the Etsy search bar. See what shows up on the front page. I would suggest exploring each and seeing which one suits you the best!

if you see here then Pattern SVG has only 1k+ results. This is what I am looking for. You can create a pattern SVG using AI and then upload it on Etsy store.

Creative Fabrica

This one is another one of my favorite ones out there. if you are into POD or low-content books then I highly recommend selling your designs here on Creative Fabrica.

Things you can try on Creative Fabrica —

  1. KDP interior books
  2. Patterns
  3. SVGs
  4. Illustrations
  5. icons

and so on. Here I have shown you one example of how you can find a niche for yourself!

I have taken an example of KDP interior because it’s actually very much famous out there! I know many such individuals myself who sell AI-generated KDP interiors (mostly coloring books) on Creative Fabrica!

Make sure you see what others in your niche are selling. This way you will be able to find top-selling categories in your niche.

Teachers Pay Teachers

I have to be honest here but I didn’t have much faith with this website. And there are a few things for that —

  1. I really never used this website before
  2. Not many online income proofs I have seen
  3. Not many articles, or tutorials for this site

But this doesn’t mean that we should stay away from such a platform which receives millions of traffic per month.

Hearing this I decided to try!

This website is mainly known for selling teacher’s learning resources. I have seen many selling small kids subject guides like — Maths, Geography, History, science and so on.

There are other types of books like coloring books, illustrations, etc.

One thing I have seen here is that there is actually no need for a niche. You can mix anything you want. I would advise you to see other examples given on this website.

Stock Photo websites

I love selling designs and photos on micro-stock sites!

Some websites for selling photos are —

  1. Adobe Stock (highly recommended)
  2. Shutterstock
  3. Depositphotos
  4. iStock
  5. Alamy

and so on.

Now there are various types of images you can sell —

  1. Landscape
  2. Nature
  3. SVGs
  4. Illustrations
  5. Cars (yes its famous!)
  6. Pets
  7. Patterns
  8. Food

Print-on-demand website

This is what I love the most here.

In this whole list, POD sites are my super duper favorite!

I would highly recommend you go for this one before you go for something else.

Some POD platforms that I love —

  1. Redbubble
  2. Zazzle
  3. Society6
  4. Spreadsheet
  5. TeePublic
  6. CafePress
  7. Merch by Amazon
  8. Fine Art America

Here I have given one example. Whatever niche you are looking for first check the competition on the given platform.

Wedding is really famous on Zazzle. One thing I would highly recommend is to go for this niche. There are many sub-niches on this.

My final thoughts

Creating and selling AI-generated designs on various platforms can be a little bit overwhelming. I was in the same boat as well. It does take some time. But once you know how awesome and easy it is, I am sure you will fall in love with AI and Art!
