Joker and Harley?

Sooooooooo. Joker and Harley Quinn are getting a movie. It’s a “love story.” It’s a bad idea.

And that’s the blog ladies and gentlemen.

Wait. It’s too short.

What do you mean? Fine. Fine.

Okay so why is this a bad idea?

Joker is a serial abuser. He has seriously beaten Harley physically, emotionally, and everything else. Let’s just go over some atrocities.

In some versions, Joker forced Harley into the same vat of chemicals that made him insane. In others, he’s beaten her for failure. He’s kidnapped her. Used her as sexual currency with other criminals. Most famously, Joker has used Harley to take the fall.

He’s continuously held the carrot over Harley’s head. If she just does something right, she might convince Joker to fall in love. One of the most telling scenes from Batman the Animated Series, Joker beats Harley for successfully kidnapping Batman.

Harley is haunted by Joker even in more recent comics. Joker is a specter on Harley after their break up. Harley suffers PTSD following her dealings with the Clown Prince of Crime.

The recent Joker and Harley craze can’t end fast enough. The last thing I want is little girls glorifying an abusive relationship. Make the story Harley overcoming Joker. Please. I don’t need two hours of Jared Leto beating the shit out of Margot Robie.
