Netflix’s Death Note

Netflix’s Death Note was well produced. It was pretty well acted (especially Dafoe’s Ryuk). But it was NOT Death Note. In fact the movie was so frustrating, that I have now embarked on a Death Note Anime Marathon.

Had they called this movie anything but Death Note, I probably would have enjoyed it more. The power of my fandom just whooped Netflix like Mayweather whooped Connor. Oh you didn’t know?

I literally told everyone how the fight was going to go. But that is beyond the point of this.

Honestly the best way to handle the movie would have been to present it as another person finding the Death Note, the titular murder weapon. They did away with most of the characterization the manga and anime were known for. Instead of being a super genius, light was a doofus. A fun doofus to watch, until he isn’t. It’s hard to point out when he stopped being fun. In a way similar to the original.

The only character that really benefited was Misa, whom gained a new sense of purpose. L, was just unsatisfying. Half of Light’s family was Deleted.

Look the movie wasn’t so bad. It was way better than Dragon Ball Evolution. It just missed a lot.
