16% of high school students report that they have thought seriously about killing themselves, which means suicide is one of today’s greatest threats to adolescents (“Suicide Among Youth,” 2017).
Despite the prevalence, many contributing factors to adolescent suicide rates are neglected in favor of a few major factors. For instance, “suicide contagion” is a factor that has been well-evidenced over four decades, but only recently have studies considered how and why it occurs (Mueller, 2015).
