Why is the Tata-Airbus C-295 project important for Indian defense manufacturing?

Tata-Airbus C-295
  • The Airbus-Tata joint venture to manufacture C-295 medium-lift transport aircraft in Vadodara in Gujarat through the strategic partnership route is the first among many steps that India needs to take before “Atamanirbhar Bharat” campaign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi becomes a serious catalyst for military-industrialization of the country.
  • The C-295 program is a long cry from the 1990s when the then-United Front government decided to construct Su-30 MKI fighters by defense PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) after purchasing the initial set from Russia following Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) clearance.
  • While 40 C-295 aircraft will be manufactured in India, the remaining 16 aircraft will be flown from Spain. Gujarat Manufacturing will also establish a domestic supply chain of MSMEs to supply crucial components for the C-295 aircraft. However, this is merely the first crucial step for real “Atamanirbhar Bharat.”
  • ’When PM goes abroad he receives great honour…’: Gehlot’s praise. Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday underlined the ‘great honour’ accorded to prime minister Narendra Modi on his trips abroad and said this was because ‘he is PM of the nation of Gandhi’. “… they feel proud (the) PM of that country is coming…,” the Congress leader said at an event in Mangarh district.
  • Deaths versus economic growth: In the United States, the coronavirus has killed over a million individuals. That is an incredible amount of death for the small impact it is having on US politics right now. Even on the left, there was no pressure on the Biden administration to ramp up its dwindling vaccine effort. More than a million individuals have died in the United States as a result of the coronavirus, and around 350 Americans die from it on a daily basis. It’s fascinating and disturbing that when politicians look back on this pandemic, especially in the context of the next one, they’ll notice that the backlash to limitations became a more powerful issue than the public-health problem and that the politicians who rode the backlash didn’t just survive. They were victorious.
  • NASA releases a frightening photograph of the sun on Halloween, dubbing it a ‘jack-o-lantern.’ “This image combines together two sets of extreme ultraviolet wavelengths at 171 and 193 Angstroms, generally colorized in gold and yellow, to create an uniquely Halloween-like appearance,” NASA claimed in its news conference. The photo has received over 11 lakh likes on Instagram, which has surprised many users. “Even the deity is involved in the Halloween party,” one person said, while another said, “The universe is wonderful.”
  • Can salaried people ever achieve financial independence? Here are three simple steps to take. Just setting aside money every month from your salary is not enough if much of it goes into bank deposits. Your investments need to beat inflation

It’s not rocket science you get your finances in order. But you need discipline. These are three broad steps that I recommend to get your investment portfolio right:

  1. Check if the expected weighted average return on his portfolio is more than 7 percent per annum.
  2. Evaluate each investment and check if it is beating inflation.
  3. If his portfolio is not beating inflation, change the asset class mix. Ron certainly needs to increase the equity allocation in his portfolio, based on his financial goals.

  • Ralph Lauren changed its iconic logo to woo the ‘Fortnite’ generation. Ralph Lauren’s emblem has been the same since its inception: a man riding on a thoroughbred horse, mallet in hand, chasing a polo ball. The Polo Pony emblem is a classic design for a buttoned-up company, but for the first time ever, you’ll witness a fresh rendition of that logo. The new logo, created specifically for a Fortnite collection, portrays the polo dude riding Fortnite’s distinctive piata llama. The revamp is part of a larger collaboration between the fashion label and the gaming platform, which also includes Lauren-designed in-game costumes and an in-person clothing line that compliments, if not mimics, the digital designs.

  • Curio, a design platform, brings Indian artisanship to the world arena. With the goal of highlighting worldwide craftsmanship and cultural vernaculars, its debut exhibition, “Hand in Hand: Making in the Modern Age,” launched in September at the Nehru Centre in Mayfair during the London Design Festival. Misra’s curatorial ethos for Curio is informed by both regional and global design languages, a fitting nod to her heritage. “We work with both established and emerging designers and makers, united not by a particular typology, style, or material, but by exceptional creativity and skill. Emerging talent is of great interest, as are traditional skills and
    crafts,” Misra remarks.
