Didier and Frank Hot Chocolate with Dark Chocolate Buttons is a rather non-descript looking hot chocolate that I found on Amazon. That said, this hot chocolate surprised me by being one of the better hot chocolates that you would find in the market today!

Didier & Frank Hot Chocolate with Dark Chocolate Buttons

Here’s how I rate this hot chocolate, see this article for the description of my rating criteria.

Aroma: I can smell the chocolate, though it’s not very strong. That said, it’s still more aromatic than a lot of the other hot chocolates I’ve tried.

Colour: Not the darkest or the most chocolatey-looking, but it’s definitely above average. I was worried initially because it looked quite light, but once the buttons melted (which took a while), they more than made up for the colour.

Texture: Quite good though perhaps a tad-bit on the thinner side. But that doesn’t take away from the hot chocolate.

Chocolatey-ness: This one caught me by surprise — this was quite chocolatey. The dark chocolate buttons, once they melt, really add to the rich chocolate taste.

Taste: 7/10. This was a solid and satisfying hot chocolate drink. Well-balanced, and good mix of chocolate and sweet.

This Didier & Frank Hot Chocolate ranks amongst the better hot chocolates available in India today. The dark chocolate buttons give the drink that extra chocolatey-boost. At about ₹47 per cup, this feels fairly priced compared to some of the other hot chocolate mixes in its league, and makes for a great cup of chocolate to wake up to every morning!

Overall, I highly recommend !!

A note about packaging

The hot chocolate mix comes in a simple aluminium foil bag within a thin-cardboard box. Unfortunately, once opened there’s no way to seal the hot chocolate box back, so you would need to ideally transfer the contents to another container. This is not a deal-breaker though, and I understand that this definitely helps keep the costs down for the manufacturer.

However, what I did have a qualm with were some of the inconsistent or unclear instructions. The preparation instructions don’t clearly indicate how much milk to add the recommended serving size of hot chocolate powder to.

The nutritional information box is also inconsistent. The box size is 200gms and the recommended serving size is 20gms, yet they claim that there are only 5 servings per box (and not “10” that simple math would otherwise suggest). However, to add to the confusion 3.5oz = 99.2gms, so they’ve got the weight wrong on the same line again. These inconsistencies definitely reduce trust in the product and I am not sure how much of the other information printed on the box I can believe.

Nutritional Information

Note: The nutrition facts above are for ~20gms, however in practice in 1 cup (250ml) of milk, I generally add ~24 gms of hot chocolate.

That gives the Calorie count in a cup to:112.8 (from just the hot chocolate mix).

Have you tried the Didier & Frank hot chocolate? Let me know what you think of it!
