This is a fantastic idea in theory, but I don’t believe it works well in practice.

If I’m compensated the same as everyone else on my level of responsibility, what’s my reward and motivation for going above and beyond? At the end of the day, I’ll still go home with the same paycheck as someone who does the minimum required to meet that level of responsibility.

What if one of my colleagues has special knowledge of certain techniques or patterns, but is still on the same responsibility level as me? Should I be paid equally to them? I don’t believe so.

In an ideal world, we’d have negotiated salaries, but ones negotiated fairly from the company’s angle. This would remove the “who dares wins” mentality and level the playing field between outgoing/confident employees and shy ones.
