So here they are again: Mountain bike riders, both men and women, from countries as diverse as Korea, Kazakhstan, Sweden, Australia. It’s time for the start of the annual UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) mountain biking competition season and many teams use the Cyprus Sunshine Cup as a start point for their ambitions for the year. There are 4 consecutive days of competition which are all run in the Macheras corner of the Troodos mountains, where we live. Day 3 starts and ends in our own village, Lythrodontas. The mayor is seeking to build up Lythrodontas as a cycling destination and hosting a day’s racing is part of that. There are many earth / stone roads around the mountains so the setting is ideal.
