Have you always been that one person giving laughter pangs to everyone else in your group? Have people always will-fully listened to your jokes with rapt-attention, be it in school, college, family gathering or office?
If the answer to the above questions is YES, then you should consider venturing into the standup comedy space and find your identity in it! Whatever you are doing right now, wherever you are, you can transition slowly into the stand-up comedy and be really successful at it!

As long as you can deliver amazing and hilarious content to the audience group you are likely one of the most in-demand artists.
What makes a stand-up comedian special? His/her ability to observe real life events and make a content which is absolutely hilarious, and presented in such a tone and with gestures which hit the right tickle of the bone and crack smiles all along it’s presentation!

HOW?

Doing something professionally needs refining. As a beginner into standup comedy, here’s what you should be doing :

You can try your hand at Open Mic shows where people come in to hear jokes on trial basis and comedians get to taste the credibility and subjectivity of their content. The low cost of the ticket ensures you an audience (But one that is okay with amateurs too). The best moment can be anytime, you just have to keep creating and thinking in the way your mind takes you along. A joke isn’t only funny because of its content, it is also funny because of the context, the timing as well as how well the audience age group can relate to it. The more you test your jokes in Open Mics, the more confident and aware you get to perform at live shows.

Now that we have spoken about the subjective part of comedy, let’s delve a bit deeper into how you can put everything into action. Opportunities are galore for new artists right now, being in shows at Canvas Laugh Club spread across all major metropolitan cities, Corporate Shows, College Fests or even personal events. The initial boost maybe through social media as is evident from India’s famous stand-up comedians including Kenny Sebastian, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Abhishek Upmanyu, Abish Mathew, Rahul Subramanian, groups like AIB, EIC and many more.

Begin with acts in small events nearby and make feel people comfortable in the way you deliver content. Then, take steps slowly, making your way into the big league won’t be that far! Put up some of your content on Youtube or other social media platforms and learn from every experience. As you get into more of it, the aura of your style would never fail to enchant people. Remember the more you put into it, the better you get at it!

Stand-up will always sustain, no matter what. So taking it up as a career is risk-free. It may change in form but the importance of content will always stay. A career that brings smiles to so many faces is waiting for you!
We’re waiting to hear from you on the big screen.
