For those who don’t know, Scott Pruitt is currently the head of Donald Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency, an agency whose name has become somewhat ironic under the current administration. Pruitt has been mired in scandals this week, and has faced a surprisingly difficult interview about said scandals on Fox News. Yet Pruitt’s job within the Trump administration seems surprisingly secure.

A short rundown of the various scandals Pruitt has been involved in: he has been caught misusing federal funds to fly first class, despite flying coach when using his own money. The New York Times revealed he spent $107,000 of…

Women continue to face a multitude of challenges in modern day Britain, but one that garners little notice or attention is the rising number of women facing or experiencing homelessness. This is most likely because the typical notion of a homeless individual is someone who sleeps rough, and rough sleepers are most likely to be men. But women’s homelessness manifests in alternative, hidden ways. It has to in order for these women to survive.

As of November 2017 there are an estimated 300,000 plus homeless people in Britain, according to the charity Shelter. There has been a near consistent increase…

The Rear Admiral Ronny L Jackson is highly qualified as a doctor. He served in Iraq as the man in charge of resuscitative medicine for a Surgical Shock Trauma Platoon, he was picked as a White House physician in 2006, and has been working in Pennsylvania Avenue ever since. In 2013, President Obama made him the Physician to the President, a position he retained with the election of Donald Trump in 2016. What the Rear Admiral Ronny L Jackson is not highly qualified for is running the Department for Veteran Affairs.

But Ronny Jackson this week found himself as the…

I stumbled across period poverty by accident. Through an online article, I read that women and girls who were struggling to afford menstrual products were choosing to stay at home, or use makeshift alternatives (socks, rags, toilet paper) to manage their period. I found it difficult to imagine not having access to items which, for many women, are a standard purchase.

Period poverty caught the media’s attention in late 2016, following the film I, Daniel Blake, which features a woman stealing sanitary towels. In March 2017, reports of Leeds schoolgirls regularly missing school because they were unable to afford menstrual…

I recently watched the new documentary on Gloria Allred on Netflix (Seeing Allred), and it has opened my eyes. This may seem like a pretty bold statement, but for someone who is relatively clued up on women’s issues and how women are still oppressed, I didn’t think anything could really shock me. I was wrong.

In case you’ve never heard of Allred, she is an American human rights lawyer, who has had many well-known cases on women’s issues. She defeated Trump in 2012, when she challenged Miss Universe’s rules on Transgender women, and is currently representing 11 women claiming Trump…

President Trump clearly wasn’t satisfied with firing just Rex Tillerson from his top team, as now H.R. McMaster has been dismissed from his position as National Security Advisor. This has cleared the way for the latest administration replacement: John Bolton. But who is John Bolton and why is everyone shitting themselves?

Bolton is best known for serving as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations between August 2005 and December 2006, though he served only as a recess appointment, resigning before the Senate could vote on his confirmation (because it is unlikely they would have approved it). He is…

“Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.” — George Orwell, 1984.

These words were written in 1948 as Orwell imagined the world almost four decades into the future, a world of mass surveillance and control. This week’s revelations about Cambridge Analytica and Facebook prove these words to be more applicable to the modern world than ever before.

A Channel 4 exposé revealed that data analysis company Cambridge Analytica extracted data from the Facebook profiles of over 50 million Americans in 2014, allegedly for political gain. Whistle blower…

On the 9th of March, Slovakia witnessed its biggest protest since the communism-ousting Velvet Revolution of 1989. Tens of thousands, the Guardian reports, assembled in the Slovak National Uprising Square to attempt to pressure Prime Minister Robert Fico’s government into resignation. The country is in an uproar after the murders of journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancee Martina Kušnírová.

The two 27-year-olds were killed in their house east of Bratislava. The murders are suspected to be in retaliation to Kuciak’s investigative reporting about the Slovakian mob and their affiliation with the government. …

Rex Tillerson was fired as Secretary of State last week week, an unsurprising end to the former Exxon CEO’s tenure as a diplomat. Tillerson and the President clashed publicly and privately throughout Tillerson’s fourteen months as Secretary, and Trump’s tweet (of course it was a tweet) announcing that Mike Pompeo, the CIA Director, would be taking over at the State Department, was only surprising in that it hadn’t come earlier.

Tillerson had previously worked at Exxon Mobil for his entire career, eventually becoming its CEO, before Trump picked him as his nominee for Secretary of State. From the start though…

The one thing that occurred me this week when it was announced that Kim Jong-Un had asked to meet with President Trump, and that the Donald had actually said yes, was that Pyongyang has Fallen isn’t a very catchy title for the next disaster movie. Because that’s the possibility that hangs over our heads if the meeting between Kim and Trump goes poorly: the dick-waving contest that ends the world becoming the inspiration for the next Hollywood blockbuster.Though …
