The Thing Worse Than Procrastination
As bad as procrastination is…
Inertia is worse.
Inertia is the property of matter by which a body tends to move in a straight line until acted upon by another force.
Inertia is the tendency to do nothing or to remain unchanged.
Inertia holds you in place.
Inertia keeps you in line.
It makes you comfortable.
You may be in motion, but you’re going nowhere.
Here’s how to begin to break inertia’s grip.
- Take a different route to work.
- Introduce someone to someone.
- Turn off your television one hour earlier one day per week.
- Turn off your mobile device when you get in the car.
- Wake up 15 minutes earlier — or even 5.
- Wear mismatched socks.
- Walk in the rain.
These may seem like inconsequential things. They are not
They work because they are uncomfortable.
They work because they force your mind to think differently.
They work because each is an outside force which moves you in another direction.
And while procrastination is an act of avoidance…
Inertia is no act at all.
