The Current State of NXT
As a critical fan of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Professional Wrestling in general I believe my views and opinions are that of true accuracy. This Blog is about the current state of the NXT Roster as well as thoughts on Smackdown Live and Raw.
As we have all come to know new talent in WWE have to prove themselves via the training ground that is NXT. NXT has evolved from just a training ground and has emerged into a brand of its own and has done so for quiet a while now bringing us stars such as Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose AKA The Shield to individuals such as “The Glorious” Bobby Roode and The Artist/King of Strong Style Shinsuke Nakumura and many more.
NXT has grown into a brand that at one point many thought and may still do believe that is better than the main roster shows such as Smackdown Live and Raw. People had very much a right to believe this and think this due to veteran talents from WWE rival promotions turning up in the NXT Brand. These talents include Bobby Roode, Samoa Joe, Chris Hero/Kassius Ohno and briefly James Storm. That is just to name a few, these are huge stars on the “Indie scene” and WWE knew that when they signed them.
With Exception to AJ Styles, WWE have been bringing talent through the NXT brand which has in affect made NXT competition for their main shows like Raw and Smackdown Live. My recent opinion of this is that WWE were trying to insult other companies by making their talents come through the rookie ranks. However, WWE may have stumbled upon a great idea in their petty actions. Many fans like myself are drawn towards NXT as there is much more sense of a hardcore feel to it and less story-lined nonsense, which is great for the niche audience. Personally, I would compare NXT to the ECW of the modern day PG Era.
However, of recent NXT is fairly scarce and has lost much star power as Bobby Roode,Samoa Joe,Charlotte Flair, The Revival and more have all been brought up to the main roster thus depleting the roster. NXT is currently in a phase where they are needing more star power, the only pull for me is Aleister Black and Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas.
Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas has been in NXT for a little while now and is currently the NXT Champion. However, as much as i like Almas I feel that it wasn’t right time for him to gain the championship. I feel Aleister Black (Tommy End) had more momentum and was a figure that could and still can turn some heads if he is to become champion in the near future. Aleisters unique character is what i feel makes him a more suitable champion and in my opinion should be the current NXT Champion, placing him above the likes of Johnny Gargano.
The tag team division is in dire need as i feel that The Authors of pain (A.O.P) are keeping the tag team division alive as well as the new arrival of The Undisputed Era…

I am currently in a state where I believe that if The Undisputed Era doesn’t draw attention NXT will suffer. This is also due to the sudden rise of characters being utilised on Raw and Smackdown Live, as this is drawing more attention and catching the eye of the audience once again. Raw has been using the story with Braun Strowman being a monster and destroying everything in his path. This is appealing to all audiences as it is different and diverts away from PG tones and reminds me of the Attitude Era. Smackdown Live furthermore, have interesting story-lines going on such as the one currently with Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan.
Overall, with the Royal Rumble PPV just around the corner it makes you think who will be getting called up from NXT and what state it is going to be in if anymore “superstars” leave.
