We’ve said it before: Data science can be too focused on the problem in front of you. If your work is people analytics, you’re modeling out employee trends all day long; if you’re in the retail industry (and that’s a tough one right now), you’re using every sort of AI to figure out a better supply chain. You go down the rabbit hole.

It’s helpful to hear from others. “I’ve gotten a lot of value from sharing my thoughts with people not in the same space,” says Andrea Constantinof, manager of advanced analytics for Home Depot in Canada, of her experience attending The Data Standard’s networking events.

The Data Standard is building a new space for data scientists to come together to share and learn — from one another and from leading thinkers. Each month, we invite our members to a live event (digital, for now) focused on a particular topic, with time for networking. Attendees have come from Merck, Accenture, Google, Wayfair, TD Ameritrade, Salesforce, and other great companies with super smart, innovating data scientists.

With these events, we’re helping members forge connections that have led to collaborations and career changes.

We’re working further to help our members grow in their expertise and their careers with exclusive content. Next week marks our third event and we’re focusing on leadership in data science with guest speaker Harry Kraemer, the former CEO of healthcare business Baxter International and author of From Values to Action: The Four Principles of Values-Based Leadership. Members who attend will receive a copy of his book, in addition to exclusive access to the conversation. He’ll talk about leadership principles that create success, and as a former healthcare CEO, talk about solving key data problems in health and medicine, at noon Eastern Time on Tuesday, June 9th.
