How to Calculate WFTDA Scores 101

WFTDA Scores are a big part of this site and what we are trying to accomplish. We feel like the uniqueness of the WFTDA scoring system is a strength as it encourages competitive play for a full duration of a game — regardless of score — but we also feel like many skaters and fans don’t quite understand it.

This video is 20 minutes of your life that will help you learn how to calculate WFTDA scores yourself. It is intended as a resource.

*Some important things to keep in mind for working out scoring/rankings that didn’t get mentioned in the video.

  • WFTDA’s internal rankings update each month even though they are not always published. Weights and scores for months played in games without a published ranking will be different. You can adjust by controlling for and subtracting games you have correct scores/weights for.
  • The weight system increases or decreases based upon the amount of active leagues within a ranking. More leagues = greater weights.
  • Strength Factor Challenges are not published and can seriously skew scores/rankings. Again, like unpublished weights/scores you can control for these by subtracting the scores you have published scores/rankings for from a teams overall average.
