It is unfortunate that by limiting these opportunities to women only that we cut out a huge portion of people in tech, including yourself, who would be eager to mentor and help out. I can only speak from my personal experience but most of my mentors have been men, not consciously of course, but it just turned out that way because of the numbers. My mentors were/are terrific people who really inspire me and I think it should be noted that men can be just as instrumental to guiding women into tech. So I’d say, don’t give up hope. Be a good mentor to those around you (even if it’s not in an official capacity), whether it’s your coworkers or friends who are interested in tech. I try to do my part and mentor here and there but I think organizations and meetups are missing out by only accepting women speakers/mentors.
We talk about this at my workplace and I’ve talked to women organizers of tech meetups for women.
