For this EP, we will cover the Old Overholt 114 Rye Whiskey and the Arctic Monkey’s song “Do I Wanna Know?.” We’re going to examine both subjects and more. But before we do that, here’s a song from Arctic Moneys to wet your palate.
This song is called “Fake Tales of San Francisco” from their 2006 album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not.
Let’s start with the whiskey. Old Overholt was founded in West Overton, Pennsylvania, in 1810 by Abraham Overholt. Abraham grew the business from 15 gallons of rye a day to 860 gallons a day by 1859. It was said that President Ulysses S Grant and famed gunfighter Doc Holliday were all fans of this whiskey known for its Monongahela (muh·naang·guh·hee·luh) style of rye, which is named after the Monongahela River and known for three chambered distilling.
