I Thought The Asian Woman Was A Nanny, But That’s Not The Problem
Liam Robb O'Hagan

Yes. People don’t value caretaking enough. But let’s be honest, care taking or caring or whatever one calls it is something that has been relegated to the world of women’s work pretty much forever. And women’s work and the traditional roles women play have never been given the value that men’s roles receive.

It’s great you see this because of your experiences, but any single mom, stay at home mom, teacher, wife, nurse, sex worker, you name it… has known this in her bones for as long as she’s been conscious of the work she’s been doing.

If people don’t see enough variation in the roles Asian women play, though, that’s probably more because of what they choose to see. I’ve heard countless examples from Asian women who telling me they are sick of being seen only as a stereotype and want people to see them for who they are and what they do.
