What factors contribute to a low score? Hitting accurate shots, performing well under pressure, and knowing which club to use and when to use it are all important. Learn more about lowering your score by reading the tips below!

A typical set of clubs in a player’s bag would include a driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, and a putter. All of these clubs are intended for specific situations and shots when the time comes. The driver and fairway woods, for example, are used to achieve distance, whereas irons and wedges are used to attempt shots closer to the green. Lower irons are used for longer distances and higher irons for much shorter distances, depending on the distance. The putter is another crucial club. Depending on how close you are to the hole, the putter is typically used for the green and the fringe.

When it comes to choosing a club, there are numerous factors to consider. Distance to greens, hazards, weather conditions, and even how well you use each club are all factors to consider. To choose the best club for each situation, you must first understand how far each club travels. Calculating the distance of each shot will help you understand this better. Practice this drill at the driving range to get a sense of the distance. Begin with your wedge and see how far you can hit the ball with a standard swing. Next, take out your 9-iron and determine the distance of that shot. Then move on to the 8-iron, 7-iron, and so on until you reach your driver.

During course play, keep in mind the maximum distance you can hit with each club. After deciding on which club to use, ask yourself, “Can you really hit this club that far?” In general, you should not choose your club based on the best outcome of your shot because it is unreliable. To improve consistency, you should base your club selection on the average outcome of a typical shot. For example, if you are close to a hazard, you may choose to use an iron rather than a wood to hit an accurate shot on the fairway. This allows you to avoid the hazard and potentially reduce the number of strokes you take.

Another important aspect of shot selection is to play to your strengths. As a golfer, you should always play to your strengths in order to improve your skill and lower your overall score. If you believe you perform better with certain clubs, use them for the shots you believe you can take. The goal is to play to your strengths, have faith in your abilities, and make decisions that result in lower scores. Check out our Nike Junior Golf Camps if you like these tips!
