Christmas Eve at The Society of St. Vincent De Paul

by Gregory Haft

This Christmas Eve I truly realized how blessed I am for being able to live the lifestyle that I do. I have never had to worry about where I would be getting my next meal and I couldn’t be more for thankful for that. On Tuesday evening, my family and I drove down to the dining hall of St. Vincent De Paul in Phoenix. We had donated money to help feed the homeless in the community and donated clothes to give as Christmas gifts. We helped set up, serve and clean up after the homeless as they enjoyed a luxury three course meal for Christmas Eve. The event was both rewarding and eye opening to see how people survive without homes.

While I did feel good about the services we provided, I wish there was more that could be done. No one should have to live in those conditions, especially newborn children. This makes me want to work even harder to ensure that I will never end up like that and I will be able to provide the best for my future family.
