How long were you running before you realized you could lace your running shoes differently than how they came? Oh, you haven’t yet?? Well then, I am about to rock your world!

If you have issues with your feet that you’ve always blamed on your shoes, you may be in luck! There are multiple different ways to manipulate the fit of your shoes using various lacing methods.

So, if you’ve ever dealt with blisters, cramped toes, slipping heels, or other foot issues that seem to only happen with a certain shoe or every shoe, keep reading for some methods of dealing with it.

Heel Slipping

This is one lacing tip that almost every runner can benefit from. This is especially true if you run lots of trails or roads with steep climbs and descents.

Heel slipping can usually be felt, leading to blisters on the heels if left unchecked for long enough.

If you’ve ever wondered what the upper lace hole is for, right beside where the lace usually stops, it is for heel locking.

Feeding the laces back through the top hole, and then crossing it over and through the loop created on the opposite side allows the laces to pull evenly and snugly. This, in turn, stops the heel from sliding up and down in the back of the shoe.
