R.E.S.P.E.C.T Treat Yourself With Dignity
“Be careful how you talk to yourself because you are listening”
Why do we treat ourselves poorly? Why are we so hard on ourselves? This question came up when doing a podcast interview with Melissa Joulwan of Well Fed last week. (This podcast will air Sept. 19th). We talked about how if a friend or family member is making a positive change in their health or battling a disease we are patient with them and encourage them.
When it comes to our own health we tend to beat ourselves up. We create unrealistic time frames for results. We compare ourselves to others success. We expect no bumps or pivots along the way and the success is a straight line.
Well going back the famous song “Respect” by Aretha Franklin I came up with an acronym to stop treating ourselves like crap.
R– Remember you are not perfect. Your bodies health needs change week to week, month to month and year to year. Many of these changes are due to what stress response we are putting on our body at the moment. Comparing results of your progress with someone else or even crazier someone that gets paid to eat healthily and exercise 24/7 is already setting you up for failure.
E– Expect great things in your life. You deserve great health. You deserve to take care of yourself. Live your life with the expectation that great things will happen to you and your health.
S– Say No and “Stop Doing Shit You Hate” -Gary V. Learn to say no more often and set boundaries in your life. Write down your 3 priorities in your life that mean the most to you. After that, if you are being asked to do something and it doesn’t fit into those categories then you say no. Or another way to look at it is If it isn’t a hell yes, it is a no.
P– Patience. “Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.” — Bill Gates.
E– Execute your plan. Staying consistent and making necessary pivots along the way will yield your results. Get 1% better each day and don’t let perfect ruin great.
C– Crank up your or your favorite music and have more fun. Start acting like a kid again.

T– Time to choose yourself and show yourself some respect.
Let’s here from you. How are you showing yourself some respect this week?
