It’s time for a new system

Elementary school starts when we are 7 years old, high school ends 11 years later, college eats another 4 years of our lives.
School better be great if it starts at such an early age and takes so much time. Unfortunately, no it isn’t as awesome as it should be, even tho it exerts such influence upon us and our kids.
So what is the difference between the so-called ‘ successful and happy ‘ human beings and the miserable ones?
The standard student gets good grades, gets into college, gets a good job and then most probably gets stuck with it. And probably some bad sex in between.
People have come up with solutions, but I feel none of them attacks the root of the problem.
Millenials invented the quitting-economy, internships give you some real world experience and access to information is easier than ever.
Still, the system of education isn’t what is supposed to be. Kids should love to come to school. Since school prepares the next generation of adults, it should be fast in correcting its issues, still, it does not. The speed to which a problem is analysed and solved is really slow. And most of the time the problem doesn’t get solved.
Whenever an education bill is passed, it focuses on the financial problems rather than those of actual education.
Let’s talk about one of the most controversial points in the current education system.
Standardized tests:
Cons: They don’t test shit. If you learn anything else besides the exact things that are on that test. You will probably get a lower score than a kid with a narrowed vision.
The reason we don’t change them:
Imagine a society where we won’t be able to assess the current level of knowledge of somebody. We would let kids who don’t know a thing graduate high school and ignorant teachers teach. It would be a mess.
Standardized tests are a necessary evil. In this current system, we can’t do without them.
The only thing we can do is attack the root of the problem and change the way we assess the current level of knowledge of an individual.
Here is my own solution to this problem:
The elementary school wouldn’t need to change that much.
Just take a more relaxed approach, and focus on developing the curiosity of the children, on developing their character, and on discussing adult problems.
Adults generally don’t wanna talk about their problems with the children for a couple of reasons:
1. They think children are stupid and can’t understand such things.
2. They are embarrassed
3. They don’t know how to do it.
All of these reasons are idiotic.
That’s how children get an idea of the real world, that’s how we will be sure that the future generation will be open-minded, calm and understanding.
Secondary and high school should take a college like an approach to learning. Attendance would not be obligatory, exams could be taken anytime we like before the deadline. If the student wants to prove he understands the subject sure, let him take the test, this isn’t much different from our own system, the difference is the student can move at his own pace, and have fun at school.
The bigger idea is that students now have more free time, in which they can pursue their “ calling “. They can interact more freely with the real world.
Even tho I hate the phrase “ You the average of the 5 people you hang out the most “, it is to some degree true. That means we can’t afford to lock up our students with some weirdos with emotional issues.
That means that teachers shouldn’t only be tested for their knowledge but also for their character.
The teacher should present empathy and be extremely good socializers.
Another problem is that :
In the U.S.A, around 30% of the population is obese, 65% is overweight. I would guess that as a parent, you probably want your children to be healthy and exercise regularly.
That’s why the school should take it upon itself to deliver healthy meals to everybody and be really serious when it comes to working out.
Gym classes should be obligatory and often.
Here is an interesting idea:
As we know travelling the world has some real benefits.
This is why I am proposing something more than exchange programs, programs that allow students to see the world. To understand different cultures.
This text is nowhere near completion…..
I just want to know your feedback and opinion on the matter.
More than that I would like to know if this subject could be turned into a book and if so what would be your advice.
