Habits are better than a New Years Resolution!
With a new year upon us everyone is talking about their New Years Resolution. You know what I’m talking about. Resolution is defined as a firm decision to do or not to do something by Oxford Dictionaries. I’m sure you’ve made that pledge or promise before that in this new year you’re going to lose weight, stop drinking or do better with finances. Most of these promises are short lived or never see the light of day.
What you need is to do is forgo the New Years Resolution for more meaningful habit forming changes in your life. Most of the things that people choose as resolutions at the beginning of the year are things they should always do on a regular basis. I’m sure I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. The problem is you need to do like that Nike slogan says and “Just do it!”. Commit now and don’t put it off. Don’t set start and stop dates. You want to create habits, good ones of course, so that you become so conditioned to doing it that you forget you’re even trying. Instead of saying I’m going to loss 50 lbs. this year, how about saying I’m going to eat better by not going out for fast food, have more home cooked meals and exercise at least one hour a day. Focus more on the habits required to get the desired outcome.
One other thing to not forget, is to take it slow. As the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
