#7 — August 22–23 2014 snow survey results

Interestingly, this year’s survey seems to have caught peoples’ imagination. The national press have picked up on it, and there’s been a few interviews where I’ve been quizzed on the specifics of how much snow is left, and why. This is all very encouraging for boosting interest in subsequent years.

The last dribs and drabs of the survey results have come in, and an exhaustive recount by me has resulted in the numbers listed below.

Once again, very many thanks to everyone who has contributed to this survey. I reckon there’s about 25 people who’ve taken part, and without their input we’d have missed very many of these patches. As it stands, I’m fairly sure we’ve captured virtually every one.

So… there were 281 patches of snow on survey day, shown below in geographical location. The largest patch in terms of length and volume is on Ben Nevis (250m x 90m x 10m). The lowest patches are still below 3000ft, amazingly, and there will undoubtedly be survivals in places where they are not normally found.
