Win Butler

Win Butler Born on April 14, 1980, Edwin Farnham Butler III is an American-Canadian singer, songwriter, musician, and multi-instrumentalist. Together with his wife Régine Chassagne, he co-founded the Montreal-based indie rock group Arcade Fire.

Butler was raised as a Mormon in The Woodlands, Texas, after being born in Truckee, California. Before the birth of his brother Will, he lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

His father, Edwin Farnham Butler II, was a Houston, Texas-based geologist for the multinational oil company Halliburton.

His mother, Liza Rey, sings, plays the jazz harp, and appeared on the family TV program The King Family Show. Currently, Butler’s parents reside on Mount Desert Island in Maine.

Alvino Rey, a pioneering bandleader and jazz steel guitarist, was Butler’s maternal grandfather.

His career lasted for eight decades. The King Sisters, who appeared in the weekly variety show The King Family Show on ABC, included Luise, his maternal grandmother.

Butler moved into Abbot Hall when he was 15 years old and began attending the New Hampshire prep school Phillips Exeter Academy.

He attended Sarah Lawrence College after graduation to study photography and creative writing but left after a year.
