The 10 Apps I Can’t Live Without
In the modern world all you have to do is walk down the street to see people glued to their smartphones. Such as the modern age, you can’t help but follow suit, especially when you’re on public transport to pass the time. We all have those essential apps that we constantly refer back to when the tie calls for it, here’s looking at you Instagram, but there are different apps other than social media that help me get through my working week as CMO at The Idle Man.
Probably one of the most important apps that I have on my phone, Linkedin allows me to check the latest news within the world of marketing, whether that be trends within marketing, new tools or potential people that we can work with. It also allows to me to see what past colleagues are up which is always nice to see.
YouTube Creator Studios
With the launch of our YouTube channel it’s essential that I can check how we’re doing with the videos that we’re posting. I can easily respond to any comments or queries relating to our YouTube channel and see any notifications relating to any videos. I can respond from anywhere and at anytime, so it’s a really great tool to have in my app arsenal.
FaceBook Pages Manager
A different side to FaceBook, but ones that’s key to my job role and how I run the social side to The Idle Man. The FaceBook Pages Manager allows me to check to see how certain posts that we’ve posted are doing, the engagement of each individual post, and what we can do to make it better seen amongst our followers on FaceBook.
Quora
For those of you who don’t know what Quora is it’s a simple question and answer website that allows you to pitch both questions and answers to subjects and matters that are relevant to you. So for me Quora is a great app to have, as I can pitch a question or an idea into it and have someone answer, whether they’re an industry insider or someone who knows about the subject I’m talking about.
Google Analytics
This is an app that I find difficult to keep off of. Google analytics allows me to track absolutely everything that goes on with The Idle Man; I can track certains stories that we’ve published, revenue and general activity all relating to The Idle Man. This is a great app to have as I can track certain trends that are happening with the website; I can see what is and what isn’t working easily, all without having to log onto my computer.
SEO Spyglass
A lot of what my job involves is SEO, which has been a major factor in The Idle Man’s success, and a lot of what I do is to keep checking competitors work to see how they are ranking with the Google search terms. SEO Spyglass allows me to do this, as I can find the best SEO tools to use and implementing them to The Idle Man.
Remember the Milk
As the CMO of The Idle Man my days can get very busy very quickly, so I need something that serves as a constant reminder of things that i need to do. Remember the Milk is an amazing app to have as I can place all of my tasks into one document so I can see everything that I need to do. It can get a little daunting at some times, but at it serves as that constant reminder of what I need to get done.
Google Drive
Google Drive is a function within Google that allows me to share any documents, images and presentations with any member of my team. Having the app on my phone really helps when I’m out and about when I’m out of the office, as I can see anything that’s been shared with myself and placed into The Idle Man’s drive.
Pocket is a great app that I use on my phone as it allows me to save anything that I read or have read and want to refer back to. I can also save images that I feel would work well for The Idle Man, draw ideas and build content around things that I have seen. This app is great for when I’m travelling as it doesn’t need any internet connection; I can save anything into Pocket and, when I’m on the tube, read everything that I’ve saved.
Skype
I rely on Skype a lot to keep in contact with members of my team as sometimes email isn’t quick enough. I can instantly message someone on my team and they can see it straight away without the hassle of sending an email. This is great for when I’m on the go and need the answer to a burning question instantly.
